Overview

 

The Human Resources, Sr. Consultant is responsible for ensuring that all HR Systems are legally compliant and capable of surviving an internal or external audit.  The incumbent has primary responsibility for overseeing employment processes, training and development, payroll, time keeping, organization headcount, and benefits administration.       

Responsibilities

(To perform within this position successfully, the incumbent must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned.)

  • Develops and manages the strategic vision for the Human Resources Team and eliminates non-value added processes
  • Writes annual (MBO) goals and objectives, develops action plans to ensure timely results, and holds Team Members accountable
  • Provides oversight for and strategic management of recruiting, hiring, on-boarding, orientation, learning and development, payroll, benefits, time management, and organizational headcount administration
  • Develops and maintains legally compliant and Best Practice HR Systems to include: Employment, Learning and Development, Succession Planning, and Performance Management  
  • Provides guidance and direction to the management staff on all Human Resources issues
  • Collaborates with General Legal Counsel on all non-routine employment and policy/procedure issues to reduce litigation risks
  • Develops and maintains the Team Member Handbook and Salaried Handbook addendum, ensures that policies and procedures are legally compliant with all local, state, and federal guidelines
  • Develops and maintains the HR Department’s key performance indicators and associated reports
  • Evaluates positive and negative trends and develops countermeasures to address concerns, presents findings to the CEO, HR Coordinator, and other senior managers
  • Develops the annual budget for the HR Department, coordinates with the Accounting Division for local approval
  • Serves as the Chair for the Plant’s 401 (k) Fiduciary Committee and acts as the Company’s agent and signatory for all plan adjustments and improvements
  • Collaborates with the Company’s third party vendors for both 401 (k) audits and annual benefits reviews, evaluations, and plan changes
  • Serves as the Company’s agent and signatory for all matters relating to immigration processing and documentation
  • Writes Team Member News bulletin board postings, ensures that all communications are grammatically correct, informative, and easy to understand
  • Collaborates with General Legal Counsel/Team Relations to ensure that policies, procedures, and communications reflect the Company’s pro-employee position
  • Acts as custodian for all personnel files and employment documents and manages the department’s document retention and destruction plan
  • Performs an annual internal audit of all Human Resources processes, researches industry trends and ensures compliance with existing and emerging laws
  • Represents the CEO at community functions and participates in area workforce development initiatives

Qualifications

(The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability required and preferred for this position.)

 

Required Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field of study
  • At least 10 years of HR Management experience in a high volume manufacturing environment
  • At least five years’ experience in a large operation of 500 plus employees

               

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of all aspects of employment law including recruiting, hiring, on-boarding, new hire orientation, and initial training expectations
  • Proven ability to develop, deploy, and maintain legally compliant HR Systems
  • Proven ability to prepare and deliver professional presentations and job specific training
  • Proven ability to produce and administer legally compliant job performance improvement plan documents designed to change poor job performance
  • Ability to write and speak simply and clearly to ensure on-going legal compliance   
  • Proven ability to exceed expectations with Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Ability to write and administer legally compliant handbook policies and procedures

 

Preferred Education & Experience:

  • Master’s Degree in Human Resources, Business or related field of study
  • Experience serving on a 401 (k) Fiduciary Committee and experience with 401 (k) audits
  • Experience in negotiating with third party benefit consultants to ensure competitive pricing and plan designs

 

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations: Professional HR Certification (PHR or SHRM-CP) or higher

 

Working Conditions:  Office setting, some walking and standing within and between buildings
